EUGENE, Ore. (AP) -- Oregon runner Galen Rupp has earned Academic All-America of the year honors as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Rupp was a Business Administration major with a 3.89 grade point average. He is the first track and cross country athlete to win the award since its inception in 1988.

Rupp shares the honor with quarterback Greg Micheli of Div. III champion Mount Union College, who majored in Physics and Mathematics with a 3.84 GPA.

Rupp, a member of the 2008 Olympic team, won six NCAA championships his senior year. Rupp also captured the 10,000 meters at the U.S. championships last month.
