MILWAUKIE, Ore. A suspect who stole a cell phone pulled a knife on employees at an AT&T store after they chased him into the parking lot Saturday evening, police said.

Around 4:30 p.m., the suspect walked into the store at 10983 Oak Street, grabbed an expensive phone, ripped it from the security anchor and took off, said Ulli Neitch with the Milwaukie Police Department.

Kyle Gray was working at the store and hollered at the suspect. He and other employees then chased the man into the parking lot, but the suspect pulled out a knife and threatened them.

A bystander jumped in and helped the employees wrestle the man to the ground, but he broke away and jumped into a waiting vehicle driven by another suspect who was reportedly casing the store earlier that day, Neitch said.

Luckily nothing happened. Next time, I m definitely probably going to stay out of it, Gray said. But at least we got the license plate number. That s something we probably wouldn t have if I stayed inside.

Both men left in a silver 2002 Volkswagen Jetta with plate number 562FJH.

The knife-wielding suspect was described as a 6-foot-4 white man in his late 20s with unshaven short red hair. He reportedly weighs about 230 lbs. and was wearing a tan jacket, torn jeans, and black skater shoes with white soles.

The driver was described as a white man in his mid 20s with unshaven brown hair. He was around 6-foot-1, weighing 140 lbs. and wearing a Trail Blazer hat, a red shirt, black sweatpants and black Nike tennis shoes.
