PORTLAND The Oregon Zoo saw more than 1.6 million visitors in the past year, setting a new attendance record.

According to Hova Najarian, spokesman for the Oregon Zoo, approximately 1.68 million people visited the zoo during its last fiscal year.

The zoo credited new arrival of a flock of pink flamingos, the ZooLights run and the debut of the baby Asian elephant Lily as contributors to the record attendance.

There s always something new to see at the zoo, said Kim Smith, zoo director. With work under way on both Condors of the Columbia and Elephant Lands, we will continue to evolve in a way that makes the community proud.

The previous record was set in 2010, with more than 1.63 million visitors.
