PORTLAND The suspect who assaulted a female student in an elevator on Portland State University s campus Saturday afternoon has been spotted on camera.

At around 3:40 p.m., the student was walking into Neuberger Hall when a man entered the elevator and physically assaulted her, campus public safety officials said in a safety alert Saturday.

She had been followed from a MAX stop on the transit mall by the suspect.

Campus security records reviewed by KGW showed the suspect attempted to tear off the woman's clothing. She fought back until the elevator opened, and the man ran off.

The victim was not physically injured.

The suspect was described as a white man, approximately 6-foot-1, with a medium build, green eyes and a well-groomed, shiny bald head (pictured).

He was wearing a straw safari hat with a chin strap, olive green cargo shorts and a gray shirt.

On Sunday afternoon, KGW spoke with students on the PSU campus, many of whom got news of the attack from campus security on their phones.

Lauren Malakoski is a criminal justice major at PSU and she's concerned about a growing number of attacks on students.

On April 28, there was a similar attack on a female student on the second floor of Neuberger hall. Police said the victim was grabbed from behind and just like the latest attack the suspect ran away.

It s pretty common down here on the park blocks because there's lots of people who don t go to school here. One time a few weeks ago, I had a drunk person trying to steal my dog from me. Lots of odd things happen, Malakoski said.

There s just a lot of catcalling. There's a lot of homeless people around here. A lot of people will say whatever they want, but I do pretty well at just keeping my mouth shut, said Rachel Hinds, a graduating senior at PSU.

Anyone with information about the most recent attack was asked to call campus public safety at 503-725-4404 or police at 503-823-3333.
