PORTLAND -- The city of Portland is offering at least 70 additional beds for women battling homelessness starting November 19, City Commissioner Nick Fish announced.

The Women s Winter Shelter will open in near the Bud Clark Commons at 655 Northwest Hoyt Street in Portland, providing a warm place for women to sleep.

Women can check in between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. to reserve a spot for the night.

A woman who fled domestic violence and was on the streets for a time told KGW that the shelter helped her turn her life around.

I was able to connect with a really good case manager through transition projects and I have a studio of my own and I've had it for three months now, she said.

Anyone looking for information about winter shelters can dial 211 and donations are always welcome.
