PORTLAND A man was robbed at a MAX platform late Tuesday night and then a bystander who tried to intervene was also attacked, police said.

Two suspects were arrested a short time later.

The robbery occurred just after 11 p.m. Police said two men harassed and robbed a 34-year-old man on the MAX platform at Northeast 7th Avenue and Holladay Street. Then, a 26-year-old man tried to stop the attack and he, too was robbed and assaulted.

Officers arrived and arrested Aklilu Beyene Girum and Conrad Milow, both 25-years old. They were booked into the Multnomah County Jail on robbery charges. Millow has a record of 19 arrests in Portland since November 2010.

Just the day before, a Good Samaritan trying to help a woman who was being mugged at a TriMet bus shelter was shot at, police said.

In that case, someone was trying to snatch the woman's purse near the intersection of SE Division and 92nd when the Good Samaritan intervened. Then the suspect fled down the bike trail along I-205, firing shots as he ran off. One suspect was later captured.
