PORTLAND -- A New York City disc jockey seriously hurt when a taxi crashed into the Jupiter Hotel remained hospitalized Friday, as his family reached out for support.

Emergency responders had to lift the cab off Jonathan Toubin, 40, who was in Portland to DJ at the nearby Branx dance club. The cab had pinned him against a wall.

The cab smashed all the way into the room at the Jupiter Hotel on EastBurnside around 11 a.m, police said.

A server working at the Doug Fir restaurant next door helped lift the car of Toubin.

He asked me, 'Where am I? What happened?' Chris Kelly told KGW. I was just like, 'You re in your hotel room. Don t worry about what happened, man. Just focus on staying calm; you re going to be alright. Paramedics, police officers, firefighters are here.'

Paramedics treated Toubin before he was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. He was listed in critical condition. His family onFriday asked for prayers from friends and supporters.

Investigators said the driver, 52-year-old Terry Uding, was also taken to the hospital and later released. Uding worked for Radio Cab and company officials told KGW she had gone into a diabetic shock causing the crash.

A benefit was being planned for next week at the EastEnd onSEGrand. More:EastEnd Facebook page
