GRESHAM, Ore. -- A family is outraged after one of the men who attacked their father and friend, got no jail time.

Packed with grieving family and friends, Jerome Weeks walked into a Multnomah County courtroom on Monday to hear his fate. He's already been found guilty of third degree assault for his part in a brutal attack.

Police found 40-year-old Robert Williams from Oregon City, a husband and father of three, lying in the street badly beaten at NW 6th and Davis. His family pulled him off life support days later. Anthony Benjamin is charged with his murder, while Lynette Harris and Weeks face assault.

In court today, Williams' family wanted Weeks to see pictures of the man he took from them.

I just want to say I apologize to Mr. Williams family, Weeks said while turning his attention to the tearful family sitting in the gallery. And apologize about the whole situation. I just wish it never happened.

But it did happen, and to Williams' family sorry wasn t good enough and neither was the sentence:36 months formal probation plus in patient treatment.

Frustrated, you know, frustrated. I don t think justice was served right, said Williams' nephew Nate Miller. I think all three of them should have got murder, they should have got life because they can't replace what they took from us.

Miller said the family has been left stunned, He might not have pulled the knife and he might not have done it himself, but he helped hold him down because my Uncle Rob was a huge man.

Harris has also pleaded guilty, and her sentencing will be in August, while Benjamin's case is slated for trial in December. This family said they will be there for all of it.

I can't wait to talk to him [Benjamin] face to face and I'm going to tell him what he did to our family. said Miller.

Police initially charged Harris and Weeks with robbery as well but dropped those charges. No formal motive has ever been given.
