PORTLAND One person is dead and another critically injured after an attack at a house in Northeast Portland Thursday afternoon.
Officers responded the report of a stabbing in the 4700 block of Northeast 96th Avenue around 4:15 p.m.
They found a man at an Econo Lodge with stab wounds. The 65-year-old victim, later identified as David Kidder, said he fled to the motel from his house nearby.
Kidder was taken to a Portland hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said. He was still in critical condition Friday morning.
Officials then went to the home at 4726 NE 96th Avenue,where the attack allegedly happened, and found the suspect, 47-year-old Wayne Dinayog Nabehet, barricaded in the home.
SERT and crisis negotiation officials talked to him and tried to get him to surrender.
Nabehet eventually surrendered around 6 p.m. after he was told a K-9 unit on scene would not be deployed.
When police entered the home, they found 54-year-old Roberto De Los Reyes Ferrater dead inside.

Both victims and Nabehet lived at the home where the attack occured, police said.
Nabehet was jailed on charges of murder and first-degree assault.
