NEWPORT, Ore. A body of a missing man washed ashore on a Newport beach Wednesday morning, Lincoln County officials said.

A woman was walking her dog on a beach south of the Newport Airport around 8 a.m. when she found a body about 50 feet beyond the surf line.

Officials said the body was that of Michael Lanpheare (pictured left), a man who went missing a week ago.

The Lincoln County District Attorney believes the last person known to be with Lanpheare before he disappeared was Donald Lawyer (pictured right).

Lawyer was found overdosing on drugs and walking nude along Highway 101 in Seal Rock last Wednesday with numerous bleeding wounds, police said. Authorities questioned Lawyer and arrested him on manslaughter charges.

The DA contends that Lawyer got into an altercation with Lanpheare before Lanpheare ended up in the ocean.

A subsequent search had found no traces of Lanpheare before the body washed ashore Wednesday.

A forensic lab confirmed the body s identity Wednesday afternoon. An autopsy to determine the cause of death was expected to be completed this week.
