PORTLAND -- Rescuers helped a man who was found clinging to a support column near the Steel Bridge Friday.

KGW s news partner The Oregonian snapped photos of the rescue on a pedestrian walkway on the east side of the Willamette River.

Someone spotted the man trying to jump down from the bridge but he got to the support column and realized it was too high to jump to the ground.

Portland Fire & Rescue used ropes and a harness to lower him the rest of the way down.
