PORTLAND -- Northwest Cornell road was closed early Friday morning after a rock slide between the tunnels, transportation officials said.

The slide was reported just after 4:30 a.m. and police officers quickly arrived to block the road in both directions from Skyline Boulevard to Westover Road.

Portland Bureau of Transportation crews were called to the scene to clean up the mess.

Commuters should avoid Cornell Road as the road closure likely will be lengthy, a PBOT statement read.

No injuries were reported.

Earlier this week, a rock slide closed Interstate 84 near Hood River, and the eastbound lanes will be closed throughout the weekend.
