PORTLAND -- Authorities say a 14-year-old boy died at Portland's Vista Bridge after shooting himself and falling down an embankment.

City police did not identify the teen Thursday afternoon because his family had not been notified. The death occurred on the south end of the bridge.

The city installed 9-foot barriers just before Labor Day to prevent people from jumping from the bridge. Before the barriers were erected, five people jumped to their deaths in 2013.
