LONGVIEW, Wash. A Bald Eagle found dead in a Longview park may have been killed illegally and fish & wildlife officials are investigating.

John Green, of Longview, told KGW he found the mature bald eagle in Lake Sacajawea last Friday and contacted U.S. Fish and Wildlife officials.

He said one side of the eagle appeared to have injuries, but it was not clear how it was wounded.

U.S. Fish and Wildlife officials came to Green s home to collect the eagle carcass on Monday and said they would try and determine exactly how it died.

Bald Eagles are protected by the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act even though the species was previously delisted under the Endangered Species Act. It is illegal to take, possess, sell, purchase, barter, offer to sell, transport, export or import any bald or golden eagle, alive or dead.
