PORTLAND -- Three people were injured in a head-on crash in North Portland Saturday afternoon, police said.

The crash happened in the 9000 block of North Denver Avenue at around 4 p.m. when Peter Kryachun lost control of his BMW while speeding and crossed into oncoming traffic, hitting a pick-up driven by Robert Lockett, 33, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.

Kryachun was taken to the hospital with what authorities thought were life-threatening injuries. His is expected to survive, Simpson said.

Lockett and his passenger, Anthony Runkle, 38, were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries

North Denver Avenue was closed in both directions from North Argyle Street to North Schmeer Road.
