PORTLAND -- A pedestrian running for a TriMet bus darted into the path of oncoming traffic and was struck on Southeast Foster Road near 120th Avenue, according to police.

The woman suffered traumatic injuries but was expected to survive, said Portland police spokesman Sgt. Pete Simpson.

Witnesses told police the woman was standing on a marked crosswalk about 6:30 when she suddenly tried to run across Foster to catch an eastbound bus. She was hit by a westbound vehicle.

The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Westbound lanes were closed for a short time.
