CORBETT, Ore. -- The freezing rain has left some parts of the Portland Metro area, but it's still causing problems east of the city and in the Columbia River Gorge.

In Corbett, icy roads forced the town's schools to cancel classes for the day. Parents were not surprised, and agree that it's better to be safe then sorry.

If it's somewhat icy down here, it gets pretty bad up on Larch, said Corbett resident Kasey Denson. And pretty much half the kids that go to school here live up there.

In Troutdale, police had to close the road at Southeast 302nd Avenue and Division after several icy crashes. Weather-related crashes were also reported in Gresham. Crews were putting gravel down in an attempt to help with traction.

Spots of freezing rain were expected to continue through Thursday night in The Dalles and the eastern Gorge, said KGW Meteorologist Matt Zaffino. But it was expected to move out by Friday morning.
