SEATTLE, Wash. -- Nearly one week after the new elephant calf was born at the Oregon zoo, the animal's legal owners are again defending their traveling elephant company.

The company Have Trunk Will Travel sent a letter to the editor of the Seattle Times that said the Times' story has taken away from the joy and celebration of the birth of the beautiful, healthy elephant calf born to Rose-Tu and Tusko. with an unnecessary controversy.

It went on to say that This birth epitomizes what we work toward and what we care about.

The company described the breeding loan agreement with the Oregon Zoo as common and said that it collaborates with many other zoos as well.

Both the Oregon Zoo and the owners of Have Trunk Will Travel have insisted that the new calf will stay with her mother Rose-Tu at the zoo.
