PORTLAND -- People held hands across the Hawthorne Bridge in an act of solidarity Sunday night, to demonstrate against anti-gay violence.

Hands across Hawthorne came on the heels of an attack against two gay men last week.

Background: Police investigate beating of two gay men

Two gay men were beaten last Sunday on the Eastbank Esplanade. It s believed to have happened after the suspects saw the victims holding hands.

Groups such as Basic Rights Oregon, Cascade Aids Project, Pride Northwest and the Q-Center came together with supporters for the demonstration Sunday night.

Police were still looking for the suspects in the attack.
