TROUTDALE, Ore. -- In just about a month, students and teachers will return to Reynolds High School. When they do, the gym complex where last month's shooting happened will look completely different.
Reynolds staff had already planned to remodel the gym locker rooms this summer. But as shown in new blueprint plans revealed for the first time to the public, the school thought it would be a good idea to change quite a bit more.
The shooting happened June 10, the second-to-last day of school. And in the days after the shooting, district officials reached out to architecture firm Oh Planning and Design, hoping they could expand the project under the same deadline.
Now we're updating the whole lobby space, the public restrooms, the associated hallways where students took refuge, said architect Deb France. It's going to be completely transformed. They won't recognize it from the space that they saw when they left.
France said it's been an emotional project for the architecture firm, and they're hurrying to have it done for the kids by late August.
