PORTLAND A recent string of shootings in Northeast Portland have caused police to conduct extra patrols this weekend.

The officers will have help from other divisions including traffic, transit and youth services. Gang outreach and enforcement teams were also helping out, Portland police said.

Three shootings happened over three days, including one possibly gang-related shooting that injured three people in a Parkrose home Wednesday night. Six children were in the house during the shooting.

Two other homes in the Argay neighborhood were hit during drive-by shootings Thursday night.

One of our goals is to get in the middle of this back-and-forth war that goes on and try to make an arrest and take people that are involved out of the mix, said Sgt. Ken Dulio of the Portland police gang enforcement team.

Dulio said Portland is still a safe city with a low crime rate, but he believes there is a gang problem.

We re going to try to prevent any violence that may happen, he said.
