PORTLAND -- A man struck by a car as he crossed a Southeast Portland street in his wheelchair last month has died, police said.
Gary Horner, 60, was crossing Southeast Division Street at 128th Avenue in his wheelchair when he was hit on February 6. The driver left the scene.
Arriving officers found Horner suffering from serious injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening at the time, said Portland police Sgt. Pete Simpson. Horner was taken to a Portland hospital.
Police searched the area and found the suspect, 20-year-old Rodney Japheth Benjamin Larry, about 20 blocks away. He was arrested for reckless driving, DUII and hit-and-run.
Horner died on March 12. Larry may now face and additional charge of manslaughter, Simpson said.
