TROUTDALE, Ore. -- A rollover crash Thursday evening on eastbound Interstate 84 killed a 9-year-old girl and sent six other people to nearby hospitals.
Four of those hospitalized after the crash were children. One of them, a 7-year-old girl, was taken by helicopter. Police said Friday morning she was doing well, but her condition was not released.
The driver somehow lost control of the vehicle around 7:30 p.m., on a section of the freeway near Troutdale airport, said Carey Kaer of the Troutdale Police Department. The SUV rolled and ended up on its roof in the grassy median between the eastbound and westbound lanes.
Kaer said the scene was a difficult one for the emergency crews, many of whom have children of their own.
The names of the victims were not released.
