PORTLAND -- A couple traveling by bicycle from Portland to Patagonia, Argentina has been named among National Geographic's 18 Travelers of the Year for 2013.

Seth McBride and Kelly Schwan began their journey last month and they plan to complete the 10,000-mile trip within a year.

McBride is paralyzed and he's traveling by hand cycle. He wants to raise awareness about the importance of exercise.

The two have also been meeting with disability rights organizations along the way.

McBride proposed to Schwan just before they set out. The two plan to marry as soon as they return to Portland.
