PORTLAND -- A Portland summer camp helps kids with special needs to express themselves.

Providence Health & Services hosts Camp Chatterbox, where campers use special computer-like talk boxes to help them communicate and express their feelings.

Most kids who participate aren't able to speak or communicate clearly, including 9-year-old Katie Lucas. Her mom, Kathleen, said bringing kids like Katie together helps give them confidence.

Ever since she got the (talk box), she's been talking more with her own voice, Kathleen Lucas said. It's been really rewarding being able to understand what she's trying to tell us,

Wednesday was Animal Day at the camp. Kids got a surprise visit from Rojo the therapy llama, courtesy of Mountain Peaks Therapy Llamas, LLC.

Camp Chatter Box continues through Friday. Providence offers several more educational activities for kids with special needs year round.
