The following message was sent to all Multnomah County employees from Multnomah County Chair Jeff Cogen on Tuesday:
Dear Multnomah County Employees,
I am writing to you this evening to let you know that I have made a mistake in my role as Chair. I was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a county employee.
My personal actions have caused my family grief and tarnished the great work that you all do. I sincerely apologize for that. I take full responsibility for my actions. No one not my family and certainly not any of Multnomah County s great employees deserves this kind of behavior.
I understand that I have violated your trust and that of the public for our organization. I will work hard to regain that trust, though I know it won t be easy. For now, I will be taking some time off to be with my family and deal with this very personal and private matter.
Again, I want to thank you for continuing to serve the residents of Multnomah County.
Jeff Cogen, Multnomah County Chair
