PORTLAND -- Moms in the Portland area are invited to Run Like a Mother on May 12th.
The Connecticut Mom who started the 5K with the clever name was in Portland Friday promoting the event.
Moms are on the run all the time and take no time for themselves. Running is easy because you can be done in 45 minutes before the kids are even awake, explained Run Like A Mother founder Megan Searfoss.
She started the 5K six years ago to get moms moving on Mother s Day. It has expanded to eight cities.
This year, at each run, there will be a moment of silence to remember the victims of the Boston Marathon bombing. Searfoss had finished 12 minutes before the first blast.
I found my family and I saw the look on their faces and realized the Boston Marathon had been changed forever, she remembered. But I will go back I already have my hotel room booked for 2014.
The Portland area run will take place in Hillsboro at Liberty High School and begins with a 1K run for kids.
Portland runner Colleen Perry plans to be there.
If you finish you re a winner that s why I love running. You never set yourself up for failure, she said.
Searfoss hopes Run Like a Mother will inspire other women to run on a regular basis.
Running has gotten me through the lows in life and given me highs as well. It is the fabric that s held everything together, she said.
