SALEM Police disarmed a 16-year-old who was threatening to kill himself with a handgun in his Salem home Saturday afternoon, Police said.
Responding police learned the teenager was in the home with his mother and a 12-year-old child, said Lt. Jim Anglemier with Salem police.
The 12-year-old got out of the home and just after 2 p.m. police heard a single gunshot inside. They then rushed in, disarmed, and physically secured the teen, Anglemier said.
Investigators learned the teen had prior medical issues and got the gun without his parents knowing.
He was taken to Salem Hospital for evaluation. He was charged with recklessly endangering another and unlawful use of a weapon.
