PORTLAND Power was restored to around 6,000 people in the metro area Sunday after high winds knocked down trees and power lines overnight Saturday and early Sunday morning.

Almost 10,000 people were without power early Sunday as crews from Portland General Electric scrambled to restore service throughout the day.

Crews are working as quickly and safely as possible. We have restored power to some customers but we are continuing to work until everyone has power, said Elaina Medina with Portland General Electric.

Authorities warn everyone to stay away from downed lines and immediately report any that may be down in your area.

A high-wind advisory was in effect for most of the morning Sunday with sustained winds over 40 mph, said KGW Meteorologist Jim Donovan.
