PORTLAND Police began clearing out campsites outside Portland s City Hall Wednesday, after posting warnings the night before.

The signs said that campers must move their belongings or police would do it for them.

A couple dozen protesters have been camped out at city hall, or across the street, for several months.They said they were protesting a lack of safe places for homeless people to sleep.

Officers also made one arrest. Terry Lee Yancy, 45, was charged with Interfering with a police officer and booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

All abandoned property left around City Hall was collected and taken to the City of Portland's Stanton Yard, located at 625 North Stanton Street, according toLt. Robert King with the Portland Police Bureau.

Other signs posted by police reminded people that camping is illegal outside city hall.
