PORTLAND -- A judge who denied an Oregon woman's request for a restraining order says it was upsetting to learn that she and her two children had been murdered, but he made the right decision given the information presented at the time.

Yamhill County Judge Cal Tichenor said Friday that Amy Engels provided no evidence her children would be in danger by having contact with the father.

Investigators say Randall Engels of Dundee fatally shot his wife and kids before killing himself Wednesday.

Engels sought the `immediate danger' restraining order May 29, writing that her husband had threatened to hurt the children.

According to the judge, Amy Engels said at a hearing that her husband had never harmed the children and she didn't mind him having some time alone with them.
