GRESHAM -- Tearful friends and family members gathered Tuesday evening at the Home of God Church in Gresham to pray for six-year-old Vinesa Snegur.

Vinesa fell into the Clackamas River Sunday and was swept away in the near-freezing water. Her family had been on a snow day outing.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office suspended the search for Vinesa Tuesday afternoon. Though they had found clothes that she had been wearing, it was too dangerous for searchers to continue along the river swollen with rain and melting snow, police said.

It's heartbreaking, it's heartbreaking, said Luba Bakhar, a bible teacher at the church.

She's very adorable, Bakhar said of the first-grader at Mill Park Grade School in the David Douglas District. She was a very charming girl.

The school assisted over 100 students and faculty with counseling. Vinesa had two older brothers who also attended Mill Park.
