PORTLAND Police are investigating two overnight shootings in North Portland after 9-1-1 dispatchers were flooded with calls about gunfire around midnight.

The first flood of calls came around 10:30 p.m. and then dispatchers said they heard from another wave of concerned citizens about two hours later.

Officers responded and found one man with critical injuries near the intersection of North Albina Avenue and North Stafford Street. Then, they also found another male gunshot victim one block away, at the intersection of North Albina Avenue and North Lombard Street. Police said neither of the victims injuries were life-threatening but both were transported to area hospitals.

Police said the suspect or suspects were still at large and so far, there were no descriptions to release. Investigators have not said whether or how they believe the shootings may be related.

A special police gang unit was helping with the investigation, but police said the victims were not cooperating. They were identified as Demarcus Carney, 25, of North Portland, who remains in critical condition; and Karl Colbert, 34, of North Portland, in stable condition.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation was urged to call police with tips.
