PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Oregon Zoo appears recession-proof.

Newly-released data indicates that in 2009 the zoo broke its all-time attendance record for the fourth straight year.

Zoo spokesman Bill LaMarche said that 1.6 million people visited the zoo last year. The most popular attractions were a new exhibit that opened last summer, Predators of the Serengeti, along with the perennial holiday favorite, ZooLights.
