BEAVERTON, Ore. -- A squirrel was the culprit responsible for Wednesday's major power outage in Washington County, according to PGE.

More than 9,000 Washington County customers lost power County Wednesday morning, according to Portland General Electric. Several stoplights were out in the area during the outage.

Washington County dispatch used auxiliary power and the outage did not impact 911 service.

PGEspokeswoman Brianne Hyder said a squirrel got into a substation near Twin Oaks Drive and Cornell Road in Beaverton just after 6:30 a.m.

Small, unrelated outages were also reported at several other sites throughout the county.
