PORTLAND -- The Portland General Electric/SOLVE Starlight Parade is one of the most unique events during the Portland Rose Festival and draws more than 250,000 spectators to downtown Portland.

The parade started at 8:30 p.m. Saturday evening at NW Burnside Street and NW 9th Avenue. The parade then traveled through downtown Portland and ended at Lincoln High School.

The popular parade wasn't the usual show, with traditional marching bands and fancy floats. Instead, the hand-built entries glowed in the dark and lit up Portland's streets lined with fans.

The 2013 Grand Marshals were the Portland Winterhawks, who just won the Western Hockey League Championship.

To add to the excitement of the parade, spectators watched as each section sweeped past them decked out in a special theme.

Spectators were encouraged to take TriMet buses or the MAX, to avoid traffic jams. TriMet was planning to add extra service during the peak.
