PORTLAND Portland Mayor Charlie Hales was among a crowd in attendance of the premiere of Alien Boy at Cinema 21in Northwest Portland Friday evening.

The documentary chronicles the life of James Chasse, a Northeast Portland man who struggled with Schizophrenia and died after a confrontation with Portland police.

Chasse s death led to settlements totaling $2.5 million from the city and county and forced the Bureau to make a number of changes in how it responds to people with mental problems.

I think a lot of people need to see movies like this that they can actually pay attention to these kinds of issues that are never ever brought up, said Liz Lepage who was at the premiere.
