PORTLAND Voters have passed the Measure 26-125 Library Levy which will cover funding for three fiscal years, commencing July 1, 2012. The levy approved by voters in 2006 included this three-year rate based local option levy for the primary election.

Results: Multnomah County Library Levy

The renewal was anticipated to raise approximately $32.6 million in 2012-13; $34.5 million in 2013-14; and $36.5 million in 2014-15. These revenues are in addition to the tax revenues from the county's permanent property tax rate under Measure 50.

The three-year local option levy will provide the library with temporary financial stability, and the next step will be to create a long-term funding solution. This would include the formation of an independent library district to go before voters on the November 2012 ballot.

The library is grateful for the continued support of the community for its public library system, said Vailey Oehlke, Director of Libraries. As the second most used public library in the nation, it is heartening to see the support of the library, at each of our 19 library locations and at the ballot box. The library extends its heartfelt thanks to the voters for their continued support.
