HILLSBORO, Ore. -- A Hillsboro family has a K-9 to thank after the Washington County sheriff's police dog found their missing 8-year-old autistic boy.

Deputy Daniel DiPietro and his K-9, Maverick, were called Sunday evening to look for the boy, who was reported missing by his family in the Cedar Hills neighborhood.

They found him wet and shivering in the middle of a swift-moving creek and got him out safely. The boy had no serious injuries and was able to return home to his parents.

Emergency responders said it's likely the boy may not have survived if Maverick hadn't found him so quickly.
