PORTLAND A man accused of hitting a 22-year-old pedestrian in Southeast Portland appeared in court for the first time Wednesday.

Gregory Latoza, 58, turned himself into police Tuesday. Latoza has been charged with hitting Max Marin, 22, on Jan. 9 while Marin was crossing Southeast Powell Boulevard near Southeast 31st Street.

Martin was critically injured in the crash but he has since been released from the Portland hospital to finish his recovery at home.

Latoza faces two counts of felony hit-and-run. His bail was set at $10,000.
