PORTLAND Undercover officers arrested a suspect Friday who was jamming cigarette butts into TriMet ticket machines as part of a racket to steal customers' change.
Police arrested 20-year-old Devin Anthony McDonald after conducting an undercover surveillance mission at the Rose Quarter Transit Station, said Sgt. Pete Simpson with Portland police.
Officers were investigating recent incidents where someone was jamming the cigarettes into the machines to stop change from coming out. The person would later return to remove the jam and collect the money, Simpson said.
On Friday, officers watched McDonald jamming the cigarette into the machine, but they don t they know if he s connected with other incidents.
He was booked in the Multnomah County Jail on criminal mischief and carrying a concealed weapon charges.
