PORTLAND -- Saving money is a huge priority for summer travelers, and there are plenty of websites to help reach that goal.
But a new service called Get A Room combines the Internet with an old-fashioned phone call.
The service was started by the founder of Hotels.com. After selling that website, Bob Diener found an even better way to get a great deal on a room: you have to call and ask about the unpublished rates.
The typical savings is ten to 20 percent, but it's as much as 70 percent, Diener said.
For hotels, the online reservation system was a blessing in the beginning. Now that welcome is wearing thin, with booking sites taking up to 30 percent for commission.
Diener said Get A Room can also find travelers deals on condos and vacation rentals that didn't sell.
