VANCOUVER, Wash. A firework or explosive device destroyed one plastic mailbox and damaged another in Vancouver Monday night.

Debris from the mailboxes, located in the 5100 block of Northeast 57th Avenue, flew into several nearby yards.

The Clark County Fire Department was investigating the explosion Tuesday.

Fire Deputy Marshal Ken Hill said suspects often target plastic mailboxes because they actually blow up, while metal mailboxes usually contain the blast.
