MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- Construction began Monday on the light rail project in Milwaukie.

The project will include the installation of new light rail trails, sidewalks and an upgrade to utilities.

TriMet hopes to enact a quiet zone by September of 2015, which means there will be no train horns unless there is an emergency.

The project will close several roads in Milwaukie and impact four bus routes.

Southeast Washington Street between 21st and 23rd Avenues will be closed during construction.

Bus routes will be detoured around Washington Street between 27th Avenue and Lake Road.

This section of the project is scheduled to wrap up on Sunday.
