PORTLAND - After more than a decade of accepting plastics, recycling centers are saying no to some of them.

The change comes because of a sudden decision by China to stop buying several types of rigid plastics from collection centers in the U.S.

The plastic numbers to remember are 3, 6, and 7 - and other types include those flimsy, plastic clam shells and PVC plastics.

VHS tapes, CDs and DVDs are also no longer accepted.

Far West Fibers in the Portland area has stopped collecting them at all its recycling depots.

The company says it has about 50 truckloads of plastic it needs to re-sort and find a home for, but said none of it will be going in the trash.

We re working with the City of Portland and metro regional government and the other processors in the area to brainstorm on other solutions to the challenge, Far West s Keith Ristau said.

As of now, there have been no changes to what you can recycle curb-side.
