WOODLAND, Wash. -- A cougar was struck by a car and badly injured Friday morning on Interstate 5, three miles north of Woodland, Wash., police said. Wildlife officials euthanized the animal shortly afterward.

The cougar was crossing the southbound lanes when it was struck by the small car, said Washington State Patrol trooper William Finn.

The 100-pound female cougar then crawled to the median. Department of Fish and Wildlife officials arrived and decided to euthanize it due to severe injuries it was suffering.
