PORTLAND - The year 2012 ended up as the fourth-rainiest on record in Portland, with more than 50 inches of total rainfall.
The No. 1 year was 1996, with just over 63 inches.
Records go back as far as 1941. Portland received 50.44 inches of precipitation in 2012.
That amount is more than 14 inches above the normal annual rainfall of 36.03 inches, according to KGW Chief Meteorologist Matt Zaffino. It's also significantly higher than Portland's 2011 total of 37.10 inches of rain.
The surplus rain in 2012 represents roughly three extra months of winter rainfall.
