SALEM, Ore. -- An inmate at Oregon's prison for women has sued the state for $1.1 million, alleging a male kitchen supervisor sexually abused her.
The Salem Statesman Journal reported the 38-year-old woman said the supervisor gained her trust and respect and began confiding in her, saying he would like to have a life with her after she left prison. Eventually, the suit says, he began groping her.
The suit says the abuse happened in an area at the Coffee Creek Correctional Institution not covered by a working security camera.
The paper reports Department of Corrections records show the man was placed on paid leave in August and resigned shortly afterward.
