MILWAUKIE, Ore. -- City officials will hear public input Tuesday night about plans to build a minor league baseball stadium in Milwaukie.

The proposed plan is to build the stadium for a Single-A minor league team on eight acres of industrial land located between the Portland-Milwaukie light rail corridor and downtown Milwaukie. Supporters believe transforming the land into a ballpark would bring thousands of people into Milwaukie.

We know that the Portland Metro area is hungry for baseball. They love baseball. I love baseball. I think this is the opportunity we've all been looking for, Mayor Jeremy Ferguson said Tuesday.

The land is currently owned by the Oregon Department of Transportation. The site also includes a building built in 1938 that the mayor said could be turned into a brew pub.

Ferguson said there have also been early discussions about acquiring the land.

Tuesday's meeting was scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at City Hall. It was expected to provide a blueprint for how the city will move forward with the effort to obtain a professional baseball team.
