The Portland Winterhawks announced their 2011-2012 regular season schedule Wednesday. The team hopes to build on a successful 2010-2011 season that took them to the WHLChampionship series.

The season opener will be played September 23 at the Rose Garden against the Everett Silvertips. The night will feature the raising of the Winterhawks' Western Conference Championship and U.S. Division Title banners.

Portland will play 24 of its 36 home games on weekends. The schedule also includes two Monday matinee games on the Martin Luther King Jr. (January 16) and Presidents' Day (February 20) holidays. The Winterhawks will also play a home game on New Year's Eve against the Seattle Thunderbirds.

The Winterhawks lost the WHLChampionship Series in May to the Kootenay Ice. The team will get its first rematch October 29 when Portland travels to Cranbrook, B.C.

Also on the schedule is Portland's first trip to Victoria, B.C. since 1994 for two games against the Victoria Royals in March.

Portland wraps up the regular season March 18 at home against the Seattle Thunderbirds. The Winterhawks plan to play about half of their regular season home games at the Rose Garden in addition to the Memorial Coliseum. Details won't be finalized until the Portland TrailBlazers announce their 2011-2012 schedule.
